To help keep abortion out of healthcare reform you may use the following letter and link in order to do so. Thank you for standing with us to protect life:

    Dear Friend,

As you know, I care greatly about the pro-life issue. Right now, Congress is considering various health care reform proposals that could force insurance companies to cover abortion and make you and I pay for them with our tax dollars.

I just sent a letter to my Members of Congress asking that they vote against any reform bill that would cover abortion or force us to pay for them. Can you help me by making your voice heard too?

Americans United for Life Action has set up a website that makes it easy to send a brief note to your Representative and Senators. They even have a sample letter ready to go if you don’t want to write one yourself. Just follow this link to send your note: https://secure3.convio.net/aulact/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=329

    Thank you!

Your message will be sent to the following decision makers:

    Senator Jeff Merkley
    Senator Ron Wyden
    Representative Kurt Schrader

For Dean and I, the thought of remaining uninformed concerning abortion is no longer an option. As much as most Christians are against abortion many, including ourselves, have been uninformed and lulled into a sense of blind oblivion with regard to the heartbreaking brutality of abortion and the fact that millions of babies’ lives have ended and will continue to end tragically due to abortion. Having been in office for only a short three months, President Obama announced his intention to pass The Freedom Of Choice Act, which would eradicate any and all restrictions that were in place concerning late term abortions, parental notification, federal funding for abortion – both in this country as well as in other countries, taking away a physician’s right to refuse to perform or refer for abortions according to their conscience, and one of the most horrendous acts conceivable, infanticide … vetoing the legal necessity of physicians to offer life-saving care to an infant who is born alive following a failed abortion attempt. (http://www.citizenlink.org/content/A000007034.cfm) Never would I have thought in this country that babies were being left to die following a failed abortion, yet this is tragically true.

Our reason for this post is to let others know that, just as Dean and I believe God asked us to be a bridge between the homeless in downtown Portland and the Church, we believe we are to be an informational bridge concerning the many changes that are rapidly occurring that will only serve to further abortion – not just in our country but around the world. We see now to keep quiet and uninformed is deciding for us which side of the playing field we are on. We choose God’s side and, in doing so, we want to cooperate with Him in any way we can by making what we believe to be His voice heard on behalf of His creation, the unborn. Just as we know our friends downtown matter to the heart of God, we know that the unborn matter deeply to His heart as well. Just as we are a voice for those we meet downtown, we choose to be His voice for the voiceless unborn.

We have added to the Church Under the Bridge blog a “Choose Life” link where we will post up-to-date information on abortion and what steps you can take in making your voice heard. Currently, President Obama and his pro-abortion administration are on the fast track to pass the Freedom of Choice Act. By clicking on the “Choose Life” link, you will find a detailed description of what this bill contains and how you can make your voice heard in stopping the passage of F.O.C.A. Also, you will find information on “The Red Envelope Campaign” and how your voice can be heard by participating in this pro-life endeavor. Lastly, for women who have had abortions, there will be information concerning hope and healing following an abortion. Having had an abortion myself, I know too well the buried pain that women carry in their hearts after they have had an abortion and, by God’s grace and love, I also know what it is to have been healed and set free from that pain by Christ. He so desires to set us all free.

Please join us in praying for the unborn and their protection – Dean and Shelly Mallon
